A sample of 167 college students responded to measures of moral judgment, self-understanding, and moral action in three data-collection sessions. Models generated of these data revealed that three different forms of moral action were statistically distinct and were differentially related to moral judgment development and self-understanding The results are discussed in terms of the importance and contributions of multiple moral developmental constructs in the production of moral action.

According to Bar-On (2002), emotional intelligence is "an array of noncognitive capabilities, competencies, and skills that influence one's ability to succeed in the coping with environmental demands and pressures" (p.14). Broadly defined, emotional intelligence "addresses the emotional, personal, social, and survival dimensions of intelligence" (p.1). Emotional intelligence and emotional skills develop over time, change throughout life, and relate to one's potential for performance, are process-oriented, and can be improved through training.

Just as everyday 'speaking' is not the same as public speaking; 'listening' is not the same as active listening. Active listening means two things: analysis and response to the message being communicated.

Listening is such an important social skill for everyone, children and adults alike. Giving our children a head start with listening skills will help them in so many ways ? and also make our own lives as parents easier in the long run. It can be frustrating and result in stress on both sides if a small child seems to ignore you when you need him or her to pay attention and listen to you. Purposed listening eliminates second guessing and much misunderstanding. But again - you have to want to understand. With understanding you can move mountains. Without it, you're missing the mark, and not really listening.
